Joseph A. Dennison renewed his cross examination of District Attorney John B. Moran before large cheering crowds in Chelsea and Boston last night, demanding answers to his questions.
A public confrontation in Suffolk County questions the withholding of testimony in telephone cases. The speaker accuses Moran of professional courtesy preventing disclosure and contrasts Moran’s past campaign stance with current charges against Mayor Fitzgerald and Moran’s support for the Democratic candidate.
Miss Etta McLean of Boston and Alexander Gordee of Boston were arrested in Chicago on charges of stealing important papers from the U S district attorney’s office. McLean, a former stenographer, allegedly supplied the papers to Gordee who tried to sell them to John R. Walsh. Both suspects were held in $5,000 bail.
Alexander Gordee, arrested in Chicago, filed a bankruptcy petition here last May. His mobilities totalled $16,000 with assets of $70. Shortly after, Gordee and his stenographer Miss McLean left here for Chicago.
Lewiston Missouri reports Monsignor Thomas H. Wallace pastor of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church died at 7 50 p m after a lingering illness of several months.
Stephen Jennings, a Court Square banker, bought a nearly valueless claim in the Alfred A. Marcus estate for 300 and, with 99000 more, seeks title to property valued around 300000. Defendants include E. S. Sparrow and F. E. Hodgkins from Lucinda Collamore’s estate. Marcus had borrowed about 50000 from Gilman Collamore in 1879 to buy property on Hanover Street and Head Place, conveying it to Mrs. Collamore as collateral per an oral agreement.
Governor Guild faced a stormy Ward 6 Republican ratification meeting at 287 Hanover Street. Chairman Jerome A. Petitti barred Arthur Dehon Hill from speaking after Hill signaled support for Sheriff Seavey and the state and county ticket.
Walter F. Baker 37 of 269 Newbury Street died last Sunday at Frank H. Hurd's Bogota New Jersey home. Foul play is suspected as doctors prepare an autopsy and Pinkertons in New York investigate. Baker left a fortune once inherited three years ago from Harvard days, with questions about his estate prompting bank notices and police inquiries.
At a political gathering more than 500 in attendance, Mr. Petitti barred Mr. Hill from speaking for Frederick Seavey, calling him a liar and non Republican. Hill refused to address the meeting under those terms and threatened to withdraw. Governor Guild arrived as cheers broke out for Arthur Dehon Hill.
Forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for Saturday fair and warmer. Increasing cloudiness brings rain overnight into Sunday with brisk southerly winds turning westerly by Sunday.
