Mayor Shank to start direct sale of meat and fruit
Indianapolis October 31 Mayor Shank plans direct sale of fresh meat and fruit after proving potatoes can be priced down when sold to the people. He says farmers agree to sell meat directly to consumers and that dealers take excess profits on meat. Apples and pears will be offered at 30 to 40 cents a bushel instead of 50 cents to $1. He estimates meat prices could drop 25 to 35 percent.
