A resident of 497 East Seventy-Eighth Street woke to four men in her room who demanded cash and jewelry. They took her money and a diamond cross after tearing open her night dress, and seized a small satchel before fleeing with threats to return and kill her. Police were notified.

Minneapolis May 30 fire destroyed several buildings including Cartman’s, Up ton’s mill, Curtis’s box factory and Osborne’s mill loss 10000. Marlboro Mass May 30 Peter Kelley’s house Liberty street burned loss about 1200 insured.
A destructive tornado crossed Clay Owen Johnson and Shelby counties Monday night. In Clay City farms and businesses were wrecked and five people died at the Craft farmhouse. The Flatrock valley suffered heavy damage to timber orchards and roads. In Ohio and Indiana, bridges flooded and barns unroofed with widespread property loss.
In Thomaston Maine a granite life size statue of Edward O'Brien was unveiled before about 3000 people. The G A R post assisted and Atwood Leavensaler gave an address recalling O Briens career as Thomaston s leading shipbuilder and town benefactor.
The Passaic River Rowing association regatta in Newark featured mile and a half heats with winners in senior and junior singles. A deadly crush on the New York anchorage of the Brooklyn Bridge in the afternoon trapped and crushed women and children for about 15 minutes. Michael Joseph Kennedy age 31, described as of de ranged mind, died by his own action Tuesday evening in Woonsocket by drowning.
Connecticut report notes Mary Lanisie four found in Hartford river after drowning at Thompsonville six weeks prior. John W. Brooks elected resident of Orient Fire Insurance Co in Hartford, succeeding resigning S C Preston. Brooks serves as state insurance commissioner with term ending in July. Berkeley Divinity School ordination in Middletown held Wednesday with fourteen deacons ordained. bishops Williams Huntington and Paddock participated.
