In Charles G D Roberts new book On the Night Trail a New Brunswick trapper walking with a lye in a canvas bag is attacked by wolves. He defends himself with his axe and releases a lynx which mauls several wolves. Roosevelt calls this description ridiculous arguing real wolves would shred a lynx.
Roberts' publisher defends Mr. Roberts against President Roosevelt's criticisms. The publisher notes Roosevelt is busy with duties and questions the accuracy of the lynx incident as told by a longtime guide Mr. Roberts knows.
The new National Shawmut Bank building features massive burglar proof vaults designed and built by Remington & Sherman Company, a renowned safe deposit and bank vault maker. They constructed the vaults on their own plans and specifications, showcasing strength and finish.

In Norfolk on May 29 the topmast of the battleship Virginia collapsed during drill, killing Boatswain's Mate Griffin and injuring Seaman Kinley. An officer said a pin holding the top mast broke and may have been misplaced, and an investigation was ordered.
Griffon and Kinley were pinned in the fighting top when the mast crashed downward. They were lowered with block and tackle after being trapped under steel crossbars. Their ship remains at the navy yard for repairs.
A historical note claims Horsford’s Acid Phosphate tablets stimulate healthy liver activity and relieve constipation sick headache and malaria. The remedy is presented as beneficial for general digestive and circulatory discomfort with multiple benefits attributed to its usage.
The Franklin Fund board approved building plans by R. Clipston Sturgis for a technical school to educate Boston workers. Construction is expected to begin within the month. In a separate matter, S. John Lamoureux testified in Superior Criminal Court that he was used in a staged bribery plot involving William H. McMasters and the United Shoe Machinery trust, detailing how $180 was handed over as part of the ruse and how funds were later returned.
The Boston institution funded by Benjamin Franklin’s will mirrors Cooper Union in purpose. Built cost is $350,000 for a four story Indiana limestone and red brick building with limestone trim. After setup, a running fund of about $20,000 yearly will support operations.
