House Debates Public Building Allocations and Politics
In Washington May 29 the House began committee of the whole on public building bills under a special order. Mills of Texas pressed for equal partisan tilt, while Milliken of Maine outlined a calendar plan favoring two Republican and one Democratic bill. Debate criticized log rolling and political influence, with Bar Harbor Me. singled out for a proposed 75000 dollar public building. Roanoke and Richmond references appeared as constituents pressed local projects. The Bar Harbor proposal drew praise and criticism, and several similar bills were laid aside after discussion.

Market Rumors Push Down Stocks After Keene Report
In New York yesterday the market stayed firm until news that James R. Keene was in trouble sparked a late decline in several sectors and frightened weak margin holders. Atchison led losses while London and other buyers supported some issues, and a Chicago view questioned Judge Collins’s Gas Trust ruling. Sugar and coal sectors showed strength with refined and raw sugar prices rising and ore and rail trends noted, including a shift by Atchison to divert Kansas City grain to Galveston.
