Fatal Train Wreck In Iowa City Leaves 8 Dead
A cloudburst washed out track near Waterloo causing a derailed train. Eight killed and 23 injured as engines and multiple cars telescoped in a chaotic wreck. Among the dead is F. Schwette en route to Minneapolis for his wedding. Passengers were rescued and sent to hospitals as relief trains arrived from Cedar Rapids.

War Department despatch from General Otis reports Spanish forces pulled back from Zamboanga after a battle with insurgents with heavy insurgent losses. Montero was among the nine Spanish dead. 27 wounded. Insurgents used captured gunboat rifles and artillery while threatening Luzon. Americans to land and restore order. Spanish gunboats turned over to the navy for coastal use.
