Jockey William Griffin Killed in Sudden Track Accident

At the Country Club meet yesterday William Griffin, a jockey of modest reputation, died after a mishap on the Lansing horse. A loose bandage slipped, causing a stumble and a fatal crash near the clubhouse as spectators watched a Day of racing including the steeplechase. Brintnall’s License Hearing Stirs Town over Chapman Club

A 15 year old boy turned over to police claims name Frank Wright and plans to reach Portland Maine where his parents live. On the steamship Manhattan deckhands recognize him as a boy who arrived from Portland last week. At Tombs court he says his name is Frederick Bruce and his address is 63 Pleasant Street Stoneham Massachusetts. He refuses to explain why he left home.

Forest Destroyed by Avalanche in Sauerbrunnen Valley

A massive rock avalanche from Schwarzmönch Mountain swept into the Sauerbrunnen Valley destroying the entire forest on the slope though no injuries were reported. The incident occurred near Berne on May 28.
