Written for the Post by Robert F. Herrick reflects on soldiers going overseas with sober earnestness and their plea to hurry over all you can. He says every citizen must act to push the war to a finish and back them up.
The annual military mass at Fenway Park drew 35 000 attendees with Governor McCall Lieutenant-Governor Coolidge Mayor Peters and Admiral Wood among the dignitaries. The event paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
A car carrying Harry Halmer and his wife of Rochester New Hampshire was struck by a Boston and Maine train at Bragdon’s Crossing Wells Beach Me. The collision killed the couple and injured their four children, two critically, as a small circus train passed.
Mrs Pilmer 42 was killed instantly. Harry Pilmer 41 died later at Hayes hospital Dover New Hampshire after injuries including a broken arm and hip. Scott Walmer 15, injured, is at Webber Hospital Biddeford Maine with scalp wound fracture and shock. Edson Palmer 1 suffered a leg fracture and severe head injuries, critical. Doris Palmer 13 has an arm broken. Carl Palmer 2 on mother’s lap suffered scratches and bruises. Family traveling from Rochester New Hampshire to Wells Beach. A barn blocks Bragdon’s Crossing near Wells Beach Station and the train was moving before the crash.
Dublin May 26 John Dillon the recently elected chairman of the Irish Parliamentary party and Joseph Devlin his chief lieutenant spoke today. Dillon declared war to the death on the Sinn Fein faction while Devlin urged peace among nations. Dillon aimed to separate Nationalists from Sinn Feiners and alleged pro German leanings. Devlin’s stance favored a hard line against Sinn Fein from an allied perspective.
An American patrol in the Luneville sector routed a German patrol with light machine guns in a sharp night fight. Several Germans were killed, their bodies dragged back, and there were no American losses. A German sergeant surrendered, claiming to quit fighting for the Kaiser and von Hindenburg. Artillery actions were light in Toul and Luneville, and American airmen completed several missions without German contact.
Mr Devlin urges peace by understanding and submission of the Irish question to the peace conference. He says Ireland and Irishmen should be pushed into the world movement for peace. He notes his stance differs from his chief who disavows Sinn Fein. Continued on Page 12 Second Col.

Miss Flora Menard died in Taunton after a rifle discharged while John C. McDonald, a boy, showed the weapon at his mother's Weir Street home. The shot entered her jaw and police ruled the incident accidental.
