17 year old Edgar W. Meikle, cleared of murder charges after a Salem trial, speaks through tears of gratitude as he returns home to Lexington Street. The jury found death by the father’s own action unlikely, delivering a verdict of not guilty and ending a year of fear and separation.
The youth, once freed, feels joy turn to near collapse from intense strain. His coolness of a year deserts him as he weeps on his cot in a small second-story room. Guardians Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tremble, who have cared for him since incarceration, try to console him.
The Team Drivers' Union 25 held an overflow meeting at Brodbine Hall with 18 new members admitted. The strike committee said fewer than 150 men remain on strike while about 200 have taken steady jobs with firms at peace with the union and gaining business. Agent Daniel J. Tobin spoke to O Connell Assembly Charlestown and Boston & Maine unions about the strike, but no further decisions were shared.
