Martin M. Lomasney Ward 8 leader headlines the Boston charter battle opening in the House. He accuses members of the Boston agreement of closing rooms drinking wine and conspiring to rob the city. He blasts Cushing for shielding the rich grafters and defends his amendment against critics.
In a crowded chamber and galleries, Lomasney seized the floor to push an amendment requiring city suppliers to swear they bid without collusion. He argued the charter bill’s loophole would target corrupt bidders and named numerous political and civic figures as those likely affected.
Mrs. Marie Richardson of Lynn caused a tense scene on a Boston & Maine train at 7 PM. She was rushed to Salem Hospital where doctors treated her and she recovered.
In Norwood on May 25 Frank Bertuccio age 19 was stabbed by his landlady Mrs Marie Pugitori after he demanded his money and urged her to run away with him. She says she stabbed him with a stiletto to save herself from his advances and fled as he collapsed toward the woods. Police report he was last seen bleeding in the street then heading into the woods. A search is planned for him tomorrow.
A 6 year old girl awakened her parents, Mr and Mrs Edward Lloyd of Western Avenue, as their home caught fire early this morning. The family escaped suffocation due to her quick action.
The wife of Harry Barton, a Boston fireman aboard the Orion, is reuniting with her long lost brother John Horton of New Brunswick after decades of mourning. Horton believed she had perished in the 1878 Atlantic wreck near Prospect, Nova Scotia, but she survived and is now in Brownfield, Maine with her children for the summer.
The tug Orion visited St. John in early April and towed the Fastern line steamer Calvin Austin to Boston for repairs. Patrolman Ross of the St. John police learned from a fireman that his wife had a brother named Norton in St. John but could not locate him. Weeks later Ross spoke with John Norton and mentioned the fireman’s statement, prompting Norton to address a note of inquiry to The Captain of Towboat Orion, Boston Towboat Company.

Atlanta on May 25 reports several Georgia railroad towns ban trains carrying negro firemen or strike-breakers fueling the firemen strike now in its ninth day. The crisis has grown to a race war atmosphere with Augusta narrowly avoiding riot as sheriff deputies rescued railroad guard J. H. Hewitt who fired on a pursuing crowd.
No wheels moved as 80 striking firemen halted train service across a 170 mile by 25 100 mile width in Georgia for three days.
