Broker Defies Arrest in York Harbor Escape

Ralph J. Leavitt, ex New York City dealer and head of the Leavitt Motor Car Exchange, evades New York County deputies who issued a warrant for him as a fugitive. Sheriff Athorne reports Leavitt warned he would shoot on sight if anyone tried to arrest him, after being entertained at his York home Wednesday and anchoring tonight in his launch in the harbor.

New York Aims to Arrest Leavitt on Bail Jump Charge

Authorities arrived Wednesday with warrants charging Leavitt with jumping bail after a prior arrest in New York for alleged fraudulent automobile transactions. Herrera Refuses Weigh In In Southern California Fight

In Los Angeles on May 25 a large crowd gathered as Herrera failed to weigh in at 131 pounds by 6 p m. He arrived around 9 p m but refused to step on the scales. Nelson offered to fight if Herrera weighed no more than five pounds over him, but Herrera persisted in refusing. After further wrangling both fighters left the club amid jeers from spectators.
