Sermon Sparks Debate at Presbyterian Assembly in Saratoga
At the Presbyterian general assembly in Saratoga on May 24 Moderator Withrow preached a peace driven sermon that pleased liberals and drew mixed praise from conservatives. He urged love over violence and criticized those who attack church standards while reminding of past memorial funds and reunion history. Reverend Hubbard challenged Withrow by contrasting memorial fund cash totals from 1871 and 1890s, arguing the current fund receipts were overstated.
