Mary A. Livermore, famed suffragist and temperance reformer, dies at Melrose home at 8:15 AM after bronchitis. Funeral set for Thursday at 2 PM at her house with public service at Congregational Church at 2:30. City offices suspend work. tolling bell honors her 84 years.
Newton residents learned Joseph Kenny and Annie G. Tibbetts eloped and married last Thursday at St John the Baptist rectory. The pair, longtime acquaintances, kept the secret until Kenny’s store remained locked then reopened. Attendants included James Kenny and Annie Smith. they now reside at 1977 Beacon Street.
In Montpelier Vermont on May 23 Judge Watson was assigned to sum up the evidence and deliver the verdict in the Mary Rogers case. The judges’ assignment from the Supreme Bench and Watson’s past involvement in the case dampen hopes for a new trial for the condemned woman.
Eva Taylor a 7 year old deaf and dumb daughter of Captain John Taylor of Lynn Massachusetts strayed from her grandmother’s home at Two Islands Saturday noon and remains missing in the dense Halifax area woods. Hundreds of men search the forests and bloodhounds will be used tomorrow to locate her as her mother grieves and her father commands the schooner Bobs sailing from Boston to Halifax.
