King Edward's Eight Near-Death Escapes Highlight unlikely luck
The article recalls eight perilous moments in King Edward's life from boyhood at Oxford when a rowing boat overturned to a 1900 assassination attempt on the way to Penhagea. It mentions storms delaying his voyage with warships sent to search for Hero and a typhoid scare nearly fatally striking him. A tiger attack in India in 1875 was repelled by Colonel White, a knee injury in 1896, and a late 1900 shooting at Ethwane sels re. Two assailants fired but missed. He survived by narrow margins in many episodes, including a brush with death on Shamrock Wednesday.
