Murder of City Foreman Ellis Near Pitts Street Place
District foreman James M. Ellis of the street cleaning division was shot and killed while on duty in Pitts street place West End. The Italian assailant fled as O'Donnell pursued, with locals and Italian residents denying knowledge. Ellis, born in Lunenburg Nova Scotia, aged 52 or 53, died instantly after the second shot.
