Wheat market mixed as dry weather limits gains

The wheat market opened firmer on dry Northwestern weather but lacked local support to sustain the advance. Paris saw a 5 to 80 point rise on frost rumors in Russia, while July wheat in New York held at 72 1/2 cents after a brief uptick. North Dakota rain rumors remained unconfirmed, and the spring wheat area showed no rain. Northwest receipts totaled 406 cars today, versus 46 last week and 403 the previous year, with some elevator houses selling off after earlier large purchases.

Methodist Conference Elects Women to General Conference

The Methodist General Conference elected two bishops and voted in favor of admitting women to the general conference after a week of ballots. D. H. Moore and J. W. Hamilton won with strong majorities. The meeting also adopted the constitution on organic law and discussed itineracy limits. J. W. Hamilton, born 1845 in Weston Va, rose through Boston and New England paths, becoming bishop-elect and secretary of the Freedman's Aid Society.

Presbyterian General Assembly Discusses Creed Revision

In St Louis on May 22 the Presbyterian General Assembly heard a report on revising the creed. Thirty eight presbyteries sent overtures and two remonstrances. A fifteen member committee was proposed to act, with seven clergy and eight elders, to report next meeting. The Rev Robert F Sample urged caution, noting the creed does not assign predestination for lost souls and infants who die are not lost. The matter was continued to tomorrow as the debate continued.

Yale approves new faculty moves at New Haven meeting

Yale University trustees met with President Hadley and major faculty members to approve several promotions and appointments. Moses White becomes professor emeritus in pathology, Otto Ramsey joins Medical School, Bartlett advances to full professor. Cape Cod Steamer Nears Readiness for Boston Provincetown Run

The Cape Cod, an excursion steamer for the Boston & Provincetown line, rests at Weeks's wharf Boston with engines in place and decks nearing completion. Brigham Will Appeal Dismissed by Supreme Court Judge Barker

Judge Barker of the Supreme Court yesterday dismissed Mrs. Frances G. Brigham's appeal of the Probate Court decision allowing the late R B Brigham's will. Brigham, thwarted in seeking divorce vacated and in challenging the will, has filed a petition to waive provisions of the will and codicil and a claim as widow to one third of the estate. The matter will be heard soon.

Two Genesee Street cars derail near Scajaduaquada creek

In Buffalo on May 22 two Genesee street cars jumped the track near the bridge over Scajaduaquada creek with no collision. Motorman William Mulhall was badly hurt. Passengers Mrs Volk Mrs Young and Mrs Krueger face grave injuries while Edwin Krueger Mrs Plefger Miss Mary Welch and Nathan Wolffe suffered various injuries.
