Sugar Turns Gains on Washington News at Boston Board
The Boston market opened dull but rose after favorable Washington news, closing near par on Sugar at 99 and a fraction with a gain over three points. Reports say Washington is out of Sugar and bears fueled the drop. Atchison and Union Pacific showed weakness with possible assessments. Burlington led gains. Casinos across the list faced mixed moves as General Electric weakened and gold reserves stood firm at low levels.
