Electric launches and the Lynn and Boston contract
An overview of electric propulsion in ships with storage battery limits and charging challenges. The Lynn and Boston line orders three 125-hp generators from Westinghouse for parallel 500-volt systems, aiming for silent, low-friction operation and quick motor changes, with lines expected to run by late summer. A new primary battery debate and a Boston inventor's electric mail box aim to speed city services and spark further electrical innovation.
