In Waterbury Connecticut on May 22 the core of the carpenters strike ended as a secret meeting produced a two to one vote to resume work at old wages and to follow the ten hour system. Since May 1 the group has grown dissatisfied and over 100 of the 800 strikers found work out of town. About 150 worked for employers who accepted the nine hour system and jobbing. It is expected all will return to the old rules tomorrow.

Deadly Atlantic Collision Between Celtic and Britannic
New York May 22 The steamers Celtic and Britannic collided May 19 in dense fog about 350 miles east of Sandy Hook. Both were to Sandy Hook harbor by 1 am. The Britannic's bow and compartments were damaged and water filled. four Britannic steerage passengers were lost. The Celtic suffered a broken bow but remained afloat. Many steerage passengers were killed or injured, including a girl named Robinson. Crew and passengers disputed about conduct and lifeboats. Fall River reports note Mrs Robinson's nine-year-old daughter among the dead.
