It claims to offer hundreds of carpet patterns and emphasizes large selection, better prices, and liberal credit as complete house furnishers of New England.

Paris May 21 President Carnot received Mr Whitelaw Reid the American minister who presented credentials Reid declared the United States would strive to maintain France friendly relations and honor the centenaries of Washington and the French National Assembly Carnot said bonds between the nations give relations an agreeable character and welcomed Reid to an easy mission

Miners in the Dortmund region have renewed a general strike after accusing mine managers of breaking promises. Delegates led by Herr Bunti addressed an immense mass meeting with Zwicken miners largely abstaining from work, while most Arnim collieries continued. Many miners resumed at Breslau and Aix la Chapelle.
A Dublin National League meeting denounces abolishing the viceroy of Ireland as an attempt to further absorb the country. Professor John E Russell, ex bibical theology head at Yale Theological Seminary, resigns to take the Mark Hopkins professorship of intellectual and moral philosophy at Williams College. He will succeed Edward H Griffin, now at Johns Hopkins University in history of philosophy and college dean post. Russell is a Williams alumnus from 1872 and aligns with Hopkins ideals.
The prospectus announces the United States Brewing Company limited acquiring brewing properties from Gotfried Krueger Peter Hauck & Co Christina Trefz Adolph G Hupfel and Albany Brewing with a three year management by Untermyer and a board including Reginald Parker George Whatman James Hayne William Ford and Hugh Hoare. The group plans 1 100 000 capitalization with 400 000 debentures 350 000 preference shares and 350 000 ordinary shares and annual sales averaging 371 156 barrels.
In St Louis on May 21 a dozen junior board of trade members were suspended for blowing toy whistles on the floor during trading. The board upheld the suspensions prompting supporters of the disciplined members to quit the trading floor and threaten a separate exchange, as most option trading moved to a ground floor room.

Mail from Cape Haytien dated May 6 shows a treaty between the Legitime government and France. It outlines cession of Gonaives and a coastal site, tax and duty exemptions for French vessels, cheaper French goods, priority for French capital in railways mines and banks, French aid to suppress the Haytian rebellion, a 5.5 million franc subsidy, and arms supplies. The pact would be ratified in Paris within three months. conflicting reports from Paris say the treaty is denied.
Shipping news lists vessels arriving at Boston and New York on May 21 from Leghorn Dundee Havana Shields Montreal and more with off points near Father Point Brow Head Prawle Point Malin Head and Fastnet. Several ships sail for Liverpool Glasgow Hull and London including St Oswald from New York and Aden from Calcutta.
