Rare Black Egyptian Ibis Shot in Middletown CT

A male Black Egyptian Ibis in full plumage, about eighteen inches tall and twenty eight inches long, was shot at Middletown Connecticut on May 9 and preserved for Dr J Barrett. A similar bird was shot at Fresh Pond Cambridge on May 8. The jot notes suggest the two birds may belong to the same flock driven south by storms and snow. They migrate via Siberia and Egypt, leading to speculation on their unlikely presence in New England and a warning about shooting protected birds.

Unlicensed Jokes and Curious Advertisements in 19th Century Notice

A miscellany of satirical notices and literary admonitions. It lampoons unlicensed joke submissions about Camp bell's Miss Seliony and references a Times theft of a witty lead. The piece moves through cabman insults, a medical cure advertised after a death, and a mock tribunal called the Court of Lunacy. It also pokes at a financial sting regarding bank notes and a humorous reference to Neddy Bray.
