Nellie M Lipsett aged 19 was found dead in her bed with a .32 caliber revolver at 6 20 in her apartment on Commonwealth avenue. She clutched a telephone receiver as police seek witnesses to hear the fatal shot. Further details continued on page eight.
New England rallied on opening day for the Second War Relief Fund of 100 million dollars to aid the American Red Cross. Hundreds of thousands subscribed, three towns surpassed minimum quotas, oversubscriptions grew, and five large firms enrolled every employee. The campaign committee did not yet have total figures.

Major Raoul Lufbery the first American ace killed in air combat was buried in Paris with full military honors. French and American detachments attended the funeral. The famed flyer had achieved world wide fame for his aerial exploits and was laid to rest in Connecticut homeward at last.
In France May 19 the death of Major Raoul Lufbery, famed American aviator, is attributed to his zeal to shoot down German airmen. He had been granted leave to rest at Brest with his sister and god mother but returned before it expired.
Major Lufbery said he came back while his term was not yet finished because his help was needed. He flew three times in his Nieuport pursuit aircraft after his return before his fatal flight. He had been engaged in active service.
Funeral services for Frank P Learned of 57 Harvard Street Everett will be from Henderson's chapel 484 Broadway at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Learned was 63 years old and was killed by a fall from a painter's staging yesterday.
New York May 20 Bishop Charles H Brent of the Episcopal diocese of Western New York has been appointed chaplain of the American expeditionary forces. He will coordinate chaplains in France with associates Rev J L Doherty and Paul Moody. General Pershing ordered the expeditionary headquarters chaplaincy organized.
