Accidents and incidents plague Charlestown area and parade preparations
Hedley Swallow, about 35, broke a rail car coupling at Ayer Junction and suffered three fractured ribs. Howard Kelly, 55, of 2 Hayes block Charlestown, was knocked down by a horse car on Charlestown street and taken to City Hospital. A man named George N Woods was arrested for attempting to collect express charges on a worthless package. A parade on June 17 promises a large trade procession with 8000 expected attendees, including workers from Spurr & Co Cobb Batea & Verxnand D Cobb & Bros, Baldwins Cadet band, and the First Regiment drum corps. Officers Hodges and Day arrested John K Going, Henry Ristine and William F Neagh for destroying railroad signals near Rutland square. James Sullivan, 10, and Patrick McNamara, 11, were arrested for breaking into J S Newell’s machine shops at 302 Federal street and stealing $30 in property. Thomas W Flowers, 7, was knocked down by an express team on Beach street, injuring teeth and the nose. J Ibez of Ogdensburg entered Ruffee Cowen’s saloon at 85 Lowell street and fought, suffering a severe cut when he struck.

Fire Damage on Dorchester Avenue Buildings and Machinery

A one story wooden building on Dorchester Avenue owned by Horatio Gore, a paver and horse railroad builder, sustained $1000 damage from a kettle oil fire.
