Across the United States about 60,000 machinists walk out seeking a nine hour day with no wage cut. In Boston and nearby areas 2500 workers have secured demands and will return to work today. overall union membership exceeds 150,000 with many already settled without striking.
John D. Coyle aged 41 is dead and Jeremiah Reardon age unknown dying after a careless gas jet turn in a room at 636 Dorchester Avenue. Both men were Fitzgerald house staff. Reardon remains in City Hospital in danger. The room was found by Bartholomew J. Fitzgerald after dawn.
Weather forecast from Washington on May 19 indicates cloudy conditions with showers and thunder storms across Gulf South Atlantic and New England coasts. Fitzgerald, hurled beneath the horses, suffered a scalp wound and was taken to City Hospital. mourners panicked but were uninjured.
