A man in a buggy gave a note directing a boy to bring Rogers home and then jumped from a high bridge into the river. Despite boats searching, remains not yet found. friends say no financial trouble and a temporary insanity may explain the act. Rogers was a prominent local businessman and son in law of I E Drake.
Chicago directors decide to close the fair next Sunday to await national commission action on Sunday opening rules. If courts do not intervene, the fair will open May 28. The commission will consider judiciary committee reports next Monday with both majority and minority views.
Early this evening the body of murderer Almy was moved from Bloss om Hill Cemetery to the prison yard for burial in the southeast corner. Chaplain Wilkins conducted a brief service as prison officials witnessed. A remittance from a former acquaintance funded flowers placed on the grave.
The Infanta Eulalie and her suite left New York on a special train at 3 o clock after a bay salute by Spanish and US vessels. She will be met in Washington by cavalry guards and officials, with Secretary Gresham representing the President. A large crowd watched the departure as the Maria Christina and accompanying ships formed a festive sight.
