Four emaciated survivors of the Leyland liner Columbian, who fled in lifeboat No 3 after the ship burned, lie in a Halifax hospital ward after being rescued by the US revenue cutter Seneca. They describe a voyage of extreme thirst and starvation and the loss of 11 fellow crewmen.
They collapsed when taken on board the revenue cutter but endured the voyage to the hospital and reached shore. once ashore they relapsed and tonight all four are critically ill.
