Vessels Tracked Off Cape Henlopen and Nearby Ports

The Globe reports sightings from Ocracoke to Cape Henlopen including the brig Ceres bound from Matanzas to Philadelphia and the brig Dover sailing from Baltimore to Boston. Other vessels named are the Mary Ann from Charleston to Liverpool and a brig with foremast damage near lat 34 73 20. A herm brig displayed a white signal with a black star while a dark steerer showed a white signal with a red border and black harp.

Entries include Edward Everett Courier Madeline Cheater Argo and more with origins Richmond New York Baltimore Norfolk and Havana. Times range Feb 16 through late Apr with positions noted lat 38 lon 39 W and multiple arrivals and sailings, some for Montevideo New York and Porto Cabello.

Society Notes and Reports From Philadelphia and Boston

The Foreign Evangelical Society marked its anniversary at First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia with Rev. Dr Baird delivering the annual report and addresses by Rev. Drs Beecher Bacon and others. In Philadelphia on Tuesday, the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions held its anniversary with Ambrose White presiding and speakers including Malin Hutchings Burchall Spaulding. The Cotton Crop totals reach 2,219,765 bales at shipping ports, up from last year with forecasts toward 2,400,000. Boston streets face costly repairs from heavy traffic. Gen. Hart L. Stewart named postmaster at Chicago, replacing William Stuart. Indicted Memphis murder suspects described as practical printers named Canfield and Wickam. A two-story house and outbuildings in Etna Maine burned, loss about 2500 dollars. A cloak thief on a packet boat is traced to Miss Susan Webb of Greenwich Massachusetts. Indians from Maine encamped on the Schuylkill near Mount Pleasant. Lieut. Gen. Thomas L'Estrange dies in England at 89.
