Carlsbad and its famed boiling kettle lid tale

A Harper’s Magazine excerpt extols Carlsbad Bohemia as a town set atop a boiling kettle lid in a romantic valley along the Tepel River. It notes about twelve thousand residents, dozens of boarding houses, and a wave of visitors, powered by mineral springs and the Sprudel Salt used as a gentle purgative and remedy.
