Meridian Report On Surrender At Camden And Newbern Expedition

The Richmond Examiner notes Meridian on May 9 reporting Steele's 9000 strong army surrender to Gen. Dick Taylor at Camden on the 28th of last month. It also mentions Gen Price demanding Alexandria's surrender and an expedition to Newbern returning with 63 captives and Libby Prison holding 29 Yankee prisoners as of May 11.

Navy reports capture of Opia by Fox at sea

The U S schooner Fox captured the sloop Opia on May 1 with 93 bales of cotton. Opia had no papers or flag, reportedly discarded by the captain. Opia sailed from St Marks to Havana when captured.
