May term opened and liquor case fined in New Bedford court

The May term opened at 11 o clock with most business postponed to May 25 in the district court room post office building. Vincengo Rugga of New Bedford pleaded guilty to retail liquor without license, fined $25 and costs. Cases included Roswell Brown libellant vs Andrew Hicks over wages as master of the bark Andrew Hicks. Brown claims $126.63 for three months aboard after voyage shortened. Hicks argues no catchings and fault with master, voyage ended by owner. An opinion followed in Ellen D. Richardson vs Maurice V. Brenahan on leather cutting press patent. Court held breadth of claim invalid for lack of novelty, dismissing the bill.
