Nineteen surgeons from across the country follow Major Goldthwait and will work in established European hospitals. John D. Pratt a Brooklyn born warrant officer attached as gunner to the U S 8 Virginia shot himself in a Boston hotel room after an incident with a woman who gave her name as May Cobaugh. Pratt had been absent without leave from the battleship since last Friday amid accounting troubles aboard.
A prominent Radical Socialist in Berlin has been arrested on treason charges tied to leaflets urging a strike on May Day. Authorities may pursue action against leading party members, including Reichstag members, for related activities.
Mayor John J. Mullen of Everett plans to seek a warrant for Alderman Winfield S. Hamlin's arrest at Malden District Court after Hamlin struck him. Mullen said Hamlin felled him with a fist, demanded badges from officers, suspended Chief Hill, and named Captain Monahan acting chief as he began to leave the office.
