A Boston financial editor argues that government led aggressive advertising will drive future security issues to much larger sums. He urges the Boston News Bureau to alert New England financial advertisers so they stay ahead in the looming era of massive security sales following the Liberty Loan drive.
The market recovered from a recent slump with firmer list and new silver stock highs. New York and Boston trading showed heavy activity in steel, copper, and silver producers, while oil and shipping shares were weak though not unsettling.
Copper mining shares drew strength from hopeful sales data for red metal with prices up to 1512 to 1534 cents and weekly trade between 20 and 25 million pounds. The Boston market showed broad strength with United States Smelting and Ventura Oil hitting new highs while Sinclair Gulf’s plunge sparked a brief trading frenzy reminiscent of past bull market days.
Trading broadened on the local curb with mixed price moves. Black Hawk fell 13 cents, Crystal new stock under a dollar dropped 1.44. Gray & Davis down 1 1/4 points. Northwestern Oil rose 15 cents, United Verde Extension up 1 4/5? points, Consolidated Copper up 1 3/4. Boston & Montana and Denbigh active, each up about 4 cents. Jerome Verde up 6, La Rose up 8. Several smaller gains noted.
Money deposited in Massachusetts institutions will draw interest from specific dates.
