The New Bureau A Little Closer Watch on Immigration
Attorneys General Miller state the new bureau will tighten oversight and say contracts with state boards must end. Citizens seeking bounties are warned the notion is misguided and spreading in some circles.
Plans for Lowell's Building Watch Immigration Office
The Treasury Department plans to tighten immigration oversight after the President appoints the Superintendent of Immigration as mandated by the latest act. The 1882 and 1891 statutes frame the fund and authority, moving supervision from state boards to federal inspectors, with contracts in Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore ending as new federal control begins.
