Chicago May 10 Fred Frenchy Mader president of the Chicago Building Trades Council and over 150 labor leaders were jailed after raids on multiple union headquarters. Police chief links outrage to labor leadership as arrests mount in a wave following the murder of two patrolmen and building bombings.
Massachusetts Senate approved moving the Cottage Farm bridge to a site that would slice through the Magazine Beach playground in Cambridge. Critics, including Senators Naphen and Cartik, warned the plan endangers the only Charles River recreation ground for Cambridge children and their mothers infants.
District Chief Clarence E. Gesner of the Springfield fire department was instantly killed when his automobile was struck by a heavy department squad wagon. He was thrown from the car and crushed by the wagon after the vehicle sideswiped his car while answering a alarm. Gesner had served since 1923.
