Federal authorities and a jury addressed unfounded rumors about Red Cross nurses sparked by remarks attributed to Dr. Emma B. Culbertson of Boston. The presentment to Judge Hand denounces circulating implausible statements as wild rumor.

After questioning by District Attorney Swann, Lord Aberdeen formerly lord lieutenant of Ireland and governor general of Canada agreed to abandon the collection of funds in the United States for charitable purposes unless tied to the war He plans to sail soon with his wife for England
Lord Aberdeen and his wife headed the Woman's National Health Association of Ireland and the allied Child Welfare Association. They operated with headquarters in New York, Boston and Philadelphia, collecting funds for the benefit of poor children in Ireland as announced.
Representative Kahn of California, ranking Republican on the military committee, said in the House that Class 1 of the draft would be exhausted within a year and that the United States would need 8,000,000 men in Europe before the war ends.

Springfield reports Lieutenant Edwin C. Parsons known as Ted Parsons of Union Street, a Lafayette Escadrille hero, shot down one German aircraft and drove off a second amid an engagement with five enemy planes in France.
Despatches from the front report Parsons joined the famed Stork squadron and left the airfield with companions who were lost in the clouds. He encountered five German planes and, refusing defeat, drew fire to himself and disabled one aircraft, then outmaneuvered the others to secure a German crash behind enemy lines.
London May 9 Andrew Bonar Law said in the House of Commons the home rule bill would not be introduced before Whitsuntide in the week of May 19. The government plans to proceed after the Whitsuntide recess.
