Crowded houses applaud Howard management as Owens and a star cast entertain. Tomorrow John Brougham joins the grand combination with Mrs Barrow Miss Morant Miss Carr Miss Thompson and other leading actors enhancing the program. Sudden Death of Senator Josiah Evans Shocks City
Josiah J Evans United States senator from South Carolina died suddenly after dinner at Gov Hammond's residence. He fell ill on arriving at his lodgings on Louisiana avenue and died within an hour despite medical aid. He was 74, a former state legislator and long serving judge. He leaves a married daughter and several sons, no wife. Evans was respected as honest, upright and capable, having chaired the revolutionary claims and contingent expenses committees in Congress.
