Edward H. Whitney treasurer of the Dover Stamping and Manufacturing Co. and James L. Buf fum were knocked from a carriage by an auto driven by Charles Bishop of Cambridge. The car could not stop and struck the curb, tipping the carriage. Whitney died within minutes at Cambridge Relief Hospital. He left a widow and three children and resided at 136 Magazine Street.
Brown University freshmen swept the interclass track meet at Andrews Field with Mayhew paving the way. He won four events, placed second twice, and set a college record by clocking 17 3-5 seconds in the 120 yard hurdles. Freshmen led with 49 points, followed by sophomores 29, seniors 26, and juniors 22.

In Coddington Cove Narraganset Bay the submarine torpedo boat Porpoise struck the government tug Mina on the starboard bow causing a small hole. Mina escaped sinking by forcing for shore with Chief Boatswain Sullivan at the helm. Divers planned to patch the hole. Porpoise and crew unharmed.
