Money Market Report From Boston May 2 1887
The money market held firm with an advance at the clearing and loans on call secured by collateral rising to 56 percent. Time paper strengthened to 4 ½ to 6 ¾ percent. Clearing house balances showed loans at 414.5 and New York funds near par. Trading in stocks was steady with Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe rising to 109 but Union Pacific slipping on selling pressure. President Adams forecast meetings with Denver & South Park holders over defaulted coupons as the market absorbed earnings and dividend data for March 1887 and observed expectations of a weak Boston bank reserve report forthcoming.
