Fatal Paris balloon ascent studied high air regions
New York reports detail the Paris ascent that left two aeronauts dead and one survivor, M. Gaston Tissandier, recounting the attempt to reach seven to eight thousand metres to study atmospheric chemistry and physics. The survivor describes loss of oxygen, violent descent, and the death of M. Sivel and M. Croce Spinelli, while the Aeronautical Society opens a fund for the deceased’s families. Funeral notices follow for Mrs Conway of Brooklyn Theatre.
