Evening Session Opens With Bright Decor and Large Crowd

May 2 10 o clock p m Croormati Convention reassembled after 6 pm. The hall by gas light looked improved and the scene was one of the liveliest yet. A greater spectator crowd than by day filled the hall, with many ladies on stage and in the galleries and decorations added to relieve the barren look.

Convention Adopts Ten Minute Speakers for Nominations

The Chair announced the Platform Committee would not report tonight and urged speeches for presenting nominations. Gen Cochrane moved to proceed with presenting candidates, allowing ten minutes to each speaker and to supporters for any name. Resolution adopted.

The Alabama negotiations and Prince of Wales health festival

In Loxton May 2 the reply of the United States on direct claims was received after a Cabinet meeting and gives grounds for hope of settlement. The House was asked not to seek papers. Meanwhile a thanksgiving for the Prince of Wales health at Crystal Palace drew a large attendance including Princess Louise Prince Alfred the Duke of Cambridge and the Prince and Princess Teck.
