Spring 1862 Yorktown siege forecast by A M correspondent
A Civil War field letter from Camp Brevore near Yorktown on April 29 1862 predicts McClellan will attack once ready and likely seize Yorktown within twelve hours with fewer casualties. It notes formidable defenses 100000 rebel troops at Yorktown Gloucester Point water batteries and strong artillery. The writer doubts a quick dash would work and cites possible cooperation with McDowell to trap retreating forces.
