Lawmakers debate a liberal Sunday bill allowing baggage and scenery transport, photography, fruit and ice cream sales, clamming, and extended Hebrew provision dealer hours. Senate chairmen endorse broader provisions while some opposition wanes and support grows in both houses.
William E. Dodge of New York son of the phil anthropist and son in law of Henry T. Sloan was sentenced to 10 days in prison and fined $100 for automobile speeding. He had been arrested twice before for the same offense and appealed today.
President Charles S. Mellen and Vice-President T. K. Byrnes of the New York New Haven & Hartford railroad arrived in Washington to discuss railroad affairs with President Roosevelt. Mellen gave little comment on the meeting, saying only that the appointment was at the President's request.
Ex Governor William L. Douglas states he will not seek any nomination and prefers not to have his name mentioned for office. Inquiry asks if he would accept a Democratic call for Governor, Douglas offers no further comment. Mayor Fitzgerald notes Democrats think Douglas credits his own personality over party achievements.
The former Massachusetts governor states after retirement that he is not seeking the nomination or the office of Governor. He says he served all people without regard to race color or religion and does not feel vindicated or in need of a vote of confidence. He adds he has no desire to be governor again or to have his name linked to any political office.

The bill rests on the Senate table awaiting a Supreme Court ruling, so it will become law to allow U S actions to determine constitutionality. The measure requires United Shoe Machinery Company to halt exclusive contracts with Massachusetts manufacturers.
Queen Victoria, in Madrid with King Alfonso, enjoyed two long drives and theater tonight. Physicians expect the heir within two to three days but say her health remains excellent and no danger is feared. The crown atop the cradle was removed and replaced with pink silk bows to avoid accident.
In the mining region a dramatic rescue ends hours of fear as Stiney Rodon and Charles Ream reach the imprisoned miners at 10 o'clock after wading through a water filled heading. Earlier, John Bolya and three comrades failed in a prior attempt and nearly drowned. Pumping intensified and finally broke through to the overcast where survivors were thought to be alive.
Levi C. Lincoln, former treasurer of the Woonsocket Electric Machine & Power Company, confessed to embezzling 92 000 since 1890. A warrant charges 57 000 embezzled since January 1. He is in custody awaiting Police Court arraignment tomorrow.

Police deploy mounted units as Lewis Harris, a strike breaker, is held on $2500 after a fatal clash with Michael J. Cunningham in South Boston Court. Forty deserters repatriated to New York and Philadelphia amid district disturbances.

They demand restraints on intimidation and disruption of business, pickets, persuading workers to quit, following their teams, and schemes to damage the complainants’ operations.

The defendants are charged with unlawfully conspiring to pervert the administration of New York laws relating to the election of New York Life Insurance Company directors. Stirrup was said to work in a subordinate role before December 1, and the offense occurred before that date. Earlier, Jacob Frank, a New York Life agent, was arrested for forgery in the third degree.
