Maine Prepares for Old Home Week Visitors

Maine plans a July celebration to welcome visitors during Old Home Week. A Lynn committee mailed about 100 letters to Maine and western officials and business leaders, seeking dates and support. Governor Pingree of Michigan and ex Governor Black of New York front the effort, urging open house across towns and cities with Portland as the gateway to a statewide welcome.

Milk Trust Sets Summer Prices and Penalties for Violators

A Boston milk meeting of 2235 dealers and contractors decided to maintain winter milk prices through the summer, with a 6 cent quart minimum and penalties for pedlers selling below that. The Postman received ovations and contractor hostility during the session at the American House as reporters gained access. A formed arbitration board will hear disputes and enforce the agreement, with signings expected from retailers and a boycott against violators.

Debate at Boston Latin School on federal railroad ownership

Pupils from the graduating class debated whether the United States railroads should be owned and operated by the federal government. On the affirmative were Ham, Field, and Bergeon. on the negative were DeWolfe, William Furroy, and Nelson. The judges awarded the decision to Ham and Murray.

Government takes Clan Robertson for military transport

The tramp steamer Clan Robertson, after unloading a cargo at East Boston, sailed for New York to load 76 000 bales of hay and 160 000 bushels of oats for the army horses and mules. The move follows a pattern of seizing regular ocean liners for government use.

Left Two Wills Filed For Hon John B Fitzgerald

Two probate instruments for the Hon John B Fitzgerald were filed in Suffolk Probate. The 1894 will lists brother Edward Fitzgerald nephews Joseph Shaughnessy and Elene P Durkin and nieces Ellen M Dorality and Sadie A Durkin as relatives. The 1891 will case involved James R Murphy and W J Loring. Judge Grant ordered notice to interested parties under the earlier will.

Hotel Harrison Hearing on Harrison Avenue

Police commissioners held a hearing yesterday afternoon for William P. Morgan pretor of the Hotel Harrison on Harrison avenue. Captain Brown of the liquor squad testified that officers saw intoxicated men in the place. Mr. Man said orders banning serving intoxicated patrons had been given and, to his knowledge, followed. The company took the case under advisement.

Sherman of New Castle Colorado first vice president of the Sherman Worrell Fruit Company was a specialist at the New England Society of California Pioneers monthly dinner at the United States Hotel on Wednesday. He discussed Concentrated Fruits, believed to revolutionize California's fruit industry.

Boston Towboat Hyades and Pleiades Launched in Baltimore

New steamers for the Boston Towboat Co were launched in Baltimore with sponsor Miss Achsah Preston christening the Hyades. The event drew over 6000 workers as logs fouled the Pleiades during a trial run, delaying the voyage but not stopping further trials.

Ancona Returns After Long Western Ocean Voyage

The Ancona of Liverpool docked at New England ports after 238 days at sea covering 24 486 knots. She carried 16 300 bales of hemp valued at about 300 000 dollars, insured due to fear of loss.
