In Oyster Bay on March 29 Colonel Roosevelt declares the Mexico border crisis and U S property issues a Wilson responsibility. He demands answers on who ordered war vessels to abandon Americans at Tampico and questions the Vera Cruz intervention and casualties.
President Wilson vows full power against the men delaying peace in Mexico and calls the Pershing expedition his second war there, signaling intensified American intervention.
In Malancourt a German foothold and two houses seized as heavy fighting continues. Three near captures at Avecourt Wood are repelled. Seven Russian attacks south of Narocz are beaten back by Germans. Air raid on Saloniki leaves twenty dead and 30 to 40 wounded with two German planes destroyed. Russians dislodge Germans west of Narocz and near Somino. French artillery disrupts large German convoys between the Oise and Aisne.
At the New England Watch and Ward Society’s 38th annual meeting in the Twentieth Century Club, Rev. F. B. Allen announced plans to stamp out immorality in Boston cafes. He said such places openly induce shameful lives and threaten the morals of youth.

After Count von Bernstorff's arrival in Berlin, Berlin says its reply to President Wilson's information request will rest on this claim and denies any German responsibility or plans to discuss the matter with Washington.
The ambassador arrived at 8 30 p m from New York and, despite visible worry over recent developments, answered questions with courtesy. He said the high tension in White House and State Department circles could not be blamed on Germany because the Sussex struck a British mine.
