Cairo dispatch reports Theodore Roosevelt plans Italy trip while stirring Egyptian nationalists by denouncing the assassination of the premier and backing continued British control. Mass meetings erupt as 500 youths march with the flag shouting liberty and denunciations, some calling for Roosevelt’s downfall.
Seven hundred students surrounded Roosevelt's hotel in Cairo after his speech at the Egyptian University. They shouted Down with autocracy and Give us a constitution, alarming spectators as guests left. Roosevelt arrived later and said he heard a noise like college cries but did not anticipate the disturbance.
Malden on March 29 reports the Ministers' Association held a public meeting in the high school hall to voice opposition to granting any pony express licenses in Malden this year. No police interference occurred as authorities allowed public opinion to run freely.
Guisto Vitrano, operating a large bakery mixer at 3 Hanover Avenue, Angello De Rosa owner, was pulled into the iron dough paddles. His head was crushed and most bones broken. He died en route to the Relief Station.
Vitrano operated a four foot square dough receptacle with iron paddles driven by a three horsepower motor. While cleaning the sides he was pulled into the machine as it tilted toward him and was cast out mangled. Fellow worker Aincesi witnessed the horrendous moment and tried to stop the grinder.
Boston Finance Commission opened a probe into school maintenance costs led by Mayor Fitzgerald. David A. Ellis testified the two year cost rise was about 9.7 percent and overall maintenance costs over 15 years nearly doubled, reaching about 2 million dollars, not counting loans and interest.
Nellie Boys aged 30 living on Upton Street in the South End was arrested early this morning on a charge of attempting to kill Daniel McPherson, 23. Police found a smoking revolver and McPherson with a bullet wound to the right temple. he was taken to City Hospital in non serious condition. A shot heard at 12 15 drew officers to the scene where the woman claimed it was an accident and returned the revolver. Witnesses said the pair were arguing as they walked.
Judge Dunbar and Edward A. Filene testified before the legislative taxation committee in support of a constitutional amendment to allow property classification for tax purposes. Edward McLellan spoke for supporters, arguing the issue is who sets the tax and warning that denying this right risks socialism and civic disorder. Miss Helen R. Flett and Leonard G. Buckle wed at home as the 6 o clock express from Boston to Roberts struck their buggy near Crapelle road. George Flett, father of the bride, witnessed the ceremony while Mrs. Bryer suffered multiple injuries and died shortly after at the depot.
