New York Dressmaker Held in $5 Million Fur Smuggling Case

Kate Brennan president of C Donovan & Co was held in $5000 bail for April 3 examination on aiding concealment of moleskin furs smuggled in from Boston on Sept 30 1912. US District Attorney Wise calls it the first local development in a nationwide conspiracy to defraud duties on furs and gowns totaling about $5 000 000. Most smuggling happened at Batson via trunks with secret markings.
