A Chicago clothing store named The Bell was gutted by a blaze today. The store was crowded with customers but all escaped unharmed. Clerk A. Smith jumped from a second story window and sustained severe injuries. investigators stated the incident was accidental and under insurance review.

Burial of James Mealey in East Boston

The funeral of James Mealey a North End resident was held from his son Charles’s home on Chelsea Street East Boston. A requiem high mass followed at the Church of the Holy Redeemer. Interment took place at Malden. Pallbearers included five sons and one adopted son. Surviving are five sons James Charles William Joseph John and two daughters Ella and Eliza, with daughters owning the Hotel Richwood on Tremont Street. James Mealey a noted sporting man was the eldest son.
