Clapp & Jones Engine Undergoes Test After Minor Accident
The new second-size Clapp & Jones engine was tested after a slight accident during a Monday trial. Jie set at the hydrant in the fire department repair shop yard, hoses fed a siamese to a street pipe with a 2 1/2 inch nozzle, delivering a powerful stream for an hour. Engineer Hermance supervised the run, with Mr. Byington firing, and the Board of Commissioners observed a very satisfactory test, noting the 700-gallon tank filled in 48 seconds by the other new engine from draught, a surprise compared with the Sisley rotary engine’s 54 seconds.
