A powerful tornado devastates Birmingham city areas, killing 18 people and leaving widespread ruin. Reports of additional cyclone activity extend to Ohio and Michigan, prompting emergency responses and searches.
The storm in Birmingham Alabama has killed about twenty five people with eighteen bodies recovered. Property losses reach four hundred thousand dollars. The negro quarters suffered the most with frail cabins crushed. Cyclones are sighted in Ohio Michigan and Georgia. Trains are snowbound in Nebraska and Colorado.
A funnel tornado ripped through the southern part of Birmingham, Alabama, just before 10 AM, killing about 25 people, including Dr. C. C. Chapman and relatives of prominent figures. The storm caused extensive property damage, with 18 bodies recovered by nightfall and many injured. The cyclone traced a 150 foot wide path from Green Springs to Avondale and extended toward Irondale, tearing down trees, houses, and negro shanties, while higher ground fared better.
Greek fruit seller Peter Sousanio faces a court showdown over his penny whistle atop a Dartmouth Street peanut cooker. Museum officials call the whistle a public nuisance while Sousa nio says he never intended disruption and fears punishment.
In Salem on March 25 Susie Young dominated attention in a high profile Best trial as women packed the courtroom. She testified about her relations with the murdered Bailey while observers remained more curious than sympathetic, even through tears. The government is expected to present most testimony tomorrow with the defense likely to finish by Thursday.
