At a March 25 hearing a joint city committee considered extending civil service to city laborers. Jerome F Manning Esaq was hissed by Councilman Butler Ames for a story deemed to reflect on Butler's grandfather General Benjamin F Butler.
General O Howard of Burlington says ex Secretary John W Foster would be a fitting minister or ambassador to Turkey. He notes Foster has high character and extensive diplomacy experience and believes no better man could be chosen.
The Harvard varsity four mile time row faced a gale and swamped barge. Despite waves and wind, the crew paddled to safety with the launch aiding the men and the barge to be repaired at Davy's yard.
Mrs. Katharine J. Allen of Chelsea sues Mrs. Elizabeth W. Ball of Malden in Suffolk Superior Court for $10,000 alleging malicious letters ruined her peace of mind. The Rev Horace L. Edgar Pratt died at his New York residence this morning from heart disease after a short illness. Born August 24, 1822 in Middletown Connecticut, he was one of the oldest Presbyterians in the diocese of New York.

In Newton on March 25, William Armstrong an assistant superintendent for Metropolitan Life Insurance was assaulted while carrying 647 for deposit at Newton National Bank. Two attackers fled toward Watertown after a daytime ambush, Armstrong badly injured but resisting the robbery. authorities sought the assailants who wore a long black overcoat and a red sweater and fled on foot then by West End electric toward Boston.
Fighting near Malaxa continues with insurgents occupying the town. European warships shell the rebels for about ten minutes as Turkish troops evacuate the blockhouse and fires burn throughout Malaxa.
In the House of Commons, George Curzon said British and American merchantmen bound for Crete could be searched by blockading admirals and may be refused delivery of cargoes. The blockade was a police measure with sovereign consent. Curzon added Sir Philip Currie was instructed to push powers and the Porte to withdraw Turkish troops to aid Greek withdrawal.
